Lean In Dayton: Tell us a little about you- your background and your most recent role or occupation.

I moved to Dayton exactly one year ago from Cape Cod , MA, where I had my own business helping people live happy, healthy and vibrant lives. I founded Yoga for Amputees five years ago to address the needs of amputees who want to live full embodied lives. As a childhood bone cancer survivor, amputee, and kidney transplant recipient, I have lived close to the precipice of death for almost 50 years. My choices to live abundantly have included teaching and directing two yoga programs for the last 20 years, as the first amputee in the US to teach yoga, write numerous books on yoga for children and adults, teach dance and somatic therapy professionally , and speak at influential events in the yoga and medical community. Presently I present at international and national conferences dedicated to advancements in medicine, physical therapy, and prosthetics.

Lean In Dayton: Tell us about your dreams and ambitions.

My ambition is to have a Yoga for Amputees patient-care plan in every VA and rehab hospital in the United States. My personal ambition is to form a dance company for amputees and to continue to write children's books.

Lean In Dayton:  What career and/or academic achievement are you most proud of?

Yoga for Amputees was listed this year as one of the top 11 Accessible Yoga programs in the U.S., by a major yoga online community.

Lean In Dayton: Name any awards and recognitions you've received.

My greatest award is making it through cancer twice, kidney failure, kidney transplant, congestive heart failure and amputation with grace, power, and joy.
